terra microbiota: the delicate bridge

soil, water, video projection, microscopes

Bachechi Open Space, NM

2018

Mud murals and interactive installation illuminating the tiny creatures inhabiting and (terra)forming the world around us. Imagery was based on microscoptic observations from water samples collected on site from the acequia (traditional community water system). The ‘paint’ of the mural was soil collected from the acequia and other local geologies. Video captured from microscope observations of water samples was projected into the mural wall during the opening event. Visitors were invited to explore soil and water samples using microscopes provided by Bachechi’s environmental education space. The murals were left to eventually wash away by the rain and slowly return to the earth.

In collaboration with Kaitlin Bryson and Jessica Zeglin.

Funding provided by Bernalillo County Public Art.
